Runner, climber, peak bagger, and complete idiot.

Married with FOUR kids. My wife also runs, but not quite with my obsession. I've been running since January 2009 and I'm an ultra runner. Pretty simple

If I get a chance to run today it won't be till late tonight. I've updated my personal blog with a question about ultra running and the rankings on ultrasignup.com. I'd be curious to know what you guys think, especially if you run ultras.

4:16:27 - I'll write this as a letter to Faceless Ghost.

Dear Faceless Ghost,

It was so sad last Saturday when we got rained out of our run on the Canals Loop. Ever since then I have been jonesing to go back. So Scott and I took advantage of a very early morning today and ran the whole course. Let me just say that it is amazing.

We met just after 4am and were quickly on our way. Like before, we crawled under the fence. I did see, however, that there is an open road just a hundred yards down though. Something to remember for next time. We never went fast, instead just found a nice conversational pace and settled in, sharing stories and laughing at other people. Like when we went there were a lot of potty breaks early on. But unlike when we went we skipped the stop at Chevron and just cruised right on past. We had another stop or two soon after though to fix shoes and put away head lamps. While I didn't capture any good pics early on since it was so dark I did manage to get a picture of Scott standing in front of the sign about the bulls.

Crossing 123rd was new territory for me. It didn't disappoint though. It was a lot of the same cool stuff, people's backyards, frequent pastures, and tons of horses. When we got to Bangerter there was no way I was going to slog through the canal under that road. I'd much rather climb a couple of fences and risk my life crossing the highway, which turned out to be simple as there were very few cars on it.

After crossing the highway.

Scott is not good at climbing fences after 20 miles.

I, on the other hand, have the grace of a gazelle.

After Bangerter there were a lot of cool farms to run through, then through the hilly housing area of Bluffdale (which doesn't seem to have any actual bluffs). Again, as with the rest of the run, there were many fences to climb over or around, but none that proved as daunting as those at the highway.

The last tricky fence crossing.

After the last fence you hit pavement, then it is just a cool half mile climb straight back to the cars. We kept laughing the whole way about how cool it was that we had just ran 25 miles of dirt roads through a city and saw tons of cool stuff. I can't wait to go back. Don't be mad because I went without you (and because I'm pretty), we'll go back together eventually. Trust me, I'll be doing this one a lot more.

1:48:11 - If any of you want to know what the trail is like going up to View Benchmark peak via Ann's trail, well, just look at the photos below. Normally I do this run in about 1:15:00. You can see how long it took us today. Up in 1:06:00 (usually up in 44:00). We were post-holing in snow drifts up to 2+ feet. Huzzah!

Scott on the summit. Totally sunny on the way up, closed in on top.

Dead sexy

I wasn't joking about the drifts. And they were unavoidable.

Heading down from the summit. So cold.

The steep, super fun section. Totally out of control.
